چکیده

Use of isolated pea chloroplasts and excitation with short saturating flashes showed that after addition of the reducing (ascorbate+DCPIP) couple the deactivation rate of S2and S3 oxidised states decreased while in the presence of PBQ a significant increase was observed. The effect of these two reagent types on Si states distribution and on the values of “misses” and “double hits” parameters are also presented. The observed increase of “misses” in the presence of (ascorbate+DCPIP) and a decrease in the presence of PBQ are discussed in relation with changes in the deactivation rate constants of the different Si states.

Electrostatic control of the efficiency of light-induced electron transfer across membranes.

The energetics and efficiency of light-induced electron transfer across membranes is examined on a molecular level. It is found that the activation energies that control the efficiency are determined by the solvation energies of the charge-transfer states, the redox potentials of the donors and acceptors, and the dielectric relaxation of the system. The formalism developed allows one to assess ...

Effect of membrane fluidity on photosynthetic oxygen production reactions.

The effect of changes of membrane fluidity on the oxygen evolving capability of isolated thylakoids was investigated. Alteration of the lipid phase fluidity was achieved by incorporation of the plant sterol stigmasterol. Incorporation of stigmasterol in the lipid bilayer of thylakoid membranes results in rigidization of the hydrophobic phase of thylakoid membranes and decreases the degree of pa...

Prevalence of virulence genes in Escherichia coli isolates of patients with UTI

Abstract Background and Objective: Urinary tract infection refers to the presence of microbial pathogens in the urinary tract and is one of the most common infections in outpatient and hospitalized patients. A wide variety of extra-intestinal infections in humans and animals are caused by the extracellular strains of Escherichia coli (EXPEC). Materials and methods:  A total of 50 E. coli iso...

Local anesthetics-induced inhibition of chloroplast electron transport.

The effects of local anesthetics on photosynthetic activity of pea chloroplasts were investigated in order to elucidate the role of Ca2+ in photosynthetic electron transport. Dibucaine, benzocaine and tetracaine were found to inhibit the O2-evolving activity. The inhibitory effect decreases in the order dibucaine greater than benzocaine greater than tetracaine greater than trimecaine similarly ...

Manganese: A Potent Antioxidant in Semen

Antioxidant are the agents which dispose / scavenge the reactive oxygen species, minimize the oxidative stress / lipid peroxidation and ultimately improve the fertilizing potential of the spermatozoa. Currently, many antioxidants are under investigation and manganese is one of them in reducing the oxidative stress both in male and female. The antioxidative action of manganese (Mn2+) on various ...
